Indigenous Research And Relationships: Call For Papers
*CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS*
"Indigenous Research and Relationships"
Native American Students in Advanced Academia (NASAA) present:
*The 9th Annual Symposium of Native Scholarship at the University of Washington
April 23rd, 2010, 9:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
University of Washington Club Conference Room*
At the heart of all research and scholarship lie relationships. These relationships
involve researchers and the communities and individuals with
whom we collaborate. They also involve our loved ones, our mentors and students, our
data, and the academy itself, among many others. As
Indigenous scholars, we are particularly mindful of maintaining and strengthening these
relationships, according to our own people' teachings
and the teachings of those with whom we collaborate. What are the relationships that you
sustain, and that sustain you, within your research
and scholarship?
Indigenous North American graduate, professional, and undergraduate students, staff,
faculty members, and community scholars are invited to
submit summaries or abstracts for the opportunity to present their work, or to be part of
a panel that will discuss ideas, pertaining to this year's
theme. Scholarly work or concepts may be communicated in one of the following formats:
- Paper Presentation
- Group Poster Session

The Battle of Four Lakes
On This Day: In 1858 over 500 Coeur d'Alene people fought Colonel George H. Wright and 600 soldiers at the Battle of Four Lakes near present-day Spokane, Washington. Wright attacked and drove off the Indians inflicting heavy losses while reportedly not losing a single soldier due to the long range (500+ yards) of the new Springfield Model 1855 Rifle-Musket vs. the short range (50-100 yards) of the Indian's smoothbores. Over 60 Coeur d'Alene warriors lost their life protecting their people and land.
